Winter Concert with Paul Vander Weele, February 5th

Everyone is invited to this winter concert next Sunday, February 5th at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.  After Fellowship Time come back upstairs for the performance by Northminster’s own organist, Paul Vander Weele, and world-renown tenor, Donald Kaasch. The music will include two Song Cycles by Gerald Finzi: Til Earth Outwears – poetry by Thomas Hardy; and Oh Fair to See – poetry by various writers including Christina Rossetti.

Paul holds a bachelor’s degree from Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY, and a master’s degree from Northwestern. He has played for Northminster for more than 20 years and also plays for the North Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe. Shortly after coming to Northminster, Paul and the Chicago Brass Quintet recorded a CD titled “Music for Brass and Organ.”

Donald Kaasch began his career studying at the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, which in the 1970s was the professional artist-development program for the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He went on to sing in principal theatres in title and leading roles at many opera companies around the world. He also has performed in international concerts with major orchestras and he has made numerous recordings of operas, oratorios and art songs.
