One for One Hundred Campaign Spotlights: (1) Membership, (2) Fellowship, (3) Christian Education, and (4) Worship, Music and the Arts!

Categories: Get Involved

You are into a time of discernment and commitment of your time to the mission and ministry of Northminster. We are calling this special time “One for One Hundred.” The idea is that between now and the end of our 100th Anniversary Celebration (roughly Pentecost 2023), we are inviting folks to consider taking up a commitment to a mission or ministry to which they feel called. Instead of what is often seen as a typical time of commitment (three years seems to be a Presbyterian standard), we are asking folks to try out these new commitments for, essentially a year and a half, through Pentecost 2023. We hope that many will fall in love with the work they are doing and want to continue it, but the requested commitment is just until June 2023.

This week we are featuring four of our long-standing committees. The Membership Committee, which is staffed by Pastor Jessica, is responsible for welcoming visitors, conducting the New Member Classes and annual New Member gatherings, and helping folks find their way into the work, worship, and service that is Northminster. This committee currently meets on the Second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. You can help welcome our neighbors and newcomers by becoming a part of the Membership Committee. Contact Pastor Jessica for more information.

The Fellowship Committee is responsible for all of our church social gatherings, common meals, and gatherings designed to bring us closer together as a community. Their work typically involves food and fun—like the annual cookout on Banner Sunday and the Potluck after (non-Covid) Annual Meetings. The Fellowship Committee meets on an as needed basis and is a wonderful mix of long-time members and those who want to help us celebrate and deepen ties through social interaction. Contact Amy Mendelson if you are interested in joining the Fellowship Committee.

The Christian Education Committee and its various teams (Youth Leadership Team, Sunday School Teachers, Adult Education Subcommittee, Family Ministries) provide for the nurture and spiritual growth of Northminster’s children, youth, adults, and families. They help oversee Sunday School, the Youth Program, Book Groups, Adult Educational opportunities on Sundays and Thursdays, the Family Christmas Eve Service, and other Family Ministries Events. They provide support and assistance for all of our staff involved in those programs and help recruit and train volunteers and teachers. Pastor Jessica, Minister to Youth Autum Lum and Children and Family Ministries Director Meredith Rogowski all staff this committee. Contact Pastor Jessica if you are interested in assisting with this committee or one of its teams.

The Worship, Music, and the Arts Committee provides assistance and oversight of our worship opportunities, our various music programs, and the integration of visual and performing arts into our worship and discipleship. They oversee the exhibits that are chosen for our Tower Entrance Gallery, are responsible for the Greening of the Church each year (and take down), the seasonal decoration of the sanctuary, our Ushers program, liturgical dance, and many other areas of our common life together.

The committee collaborates with the Pastors and our musicians, including Music Director Christopher Owen, to support their work in creating meaningful, joyful, enlightening, and faithful worship experiences for Northminster and beyond. Among the teams that are connected to this committee are: The Ushers, the Adult Choir, the Adult Handbells, Youth Handbells, Sunday School and Preschool choirs, the Chancel Guild (who prepares communion and takes care of our paraments and worship supplies in the sacristy). If you are interested in being an Usher, working for the Chancel Guild, one of our choirs, serving as a liturgist, or working on the committee, please contact Pastor Michael.

We hope one or more of these opportunities is calling you to offer your gifts to God and to Northminster.
