December 16th – Isaiah 9:2-4

2The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light;
those who lived in a land of deep darkness—
    on them light has shined.
You have multiplied the nation,
    you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
    as with joy at the harvest,
    as people exult when dividing plunder.
For the yoke of their burden,
    and the bar across their shoulders,
    the rod of their oppressor,
    you have broken as on the day of Midian.” (NRVS)

Lord God,

We sometimes wonder why our lives take the paths they do.

We seem to find ourselves in all sorts of situations we had never envisaged, and we wonder what You are doing with us.

Keep close to us, we pray, and give us the faith to trust You, for whatever happens.

Then, in Your providence, show us more of Your glory and grace, so that we may be encouraged, and praise You forever. AMEN.

There are times of darkness, there are times of very special gladness.

We’ve had several rough times at Christmas, yet we’ve held together.

This past year it was the birth of a precious boy born to my grandson and his wife. We welcomed my great grandchild Emerson Leo who I cherish holding when I can.

What a joy that he was born on my younger brother’s birthday, August 1st, 89 years ago.
