One of the things my wife Lori and I love about Northminster is that it offers activities and services for all stages of life. Make a joyful noise! I joined the Northminster choir after losing my job when I was 50 years old. While singing, I found that I could forget about everything except the music in front of me. A feeling of great peace and joy fills my heart and soul when I sing with the choir. Our weekly rehearsals are free voice lessons in a room full of supportive and very talented friends.

Whether it is fixing a leaky roof, laying down a new floor, or digging a 25-foot long drainage ditch, sharing a common goal with six other volunteers brings out the best in each person. The responsibility you share takes precedence over any other issues. The Appalachian Service Project teaches volunteers the importance of putting their own desires aside for a week to work on something ultimately larger than five youths, two adults, a power saw and a handful of nails.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to consider ASP among Northminster’s greatest outreach. Many people are introduced to our faith community through this group’s inclusive nature and acceptance. We have kids and adults from a variety of backgrounds who participate, but the unanimity of purpose always shines through.

NPC is a welcoming and caring community of faith! NPC has given me so much more than I could have ever imagined.

My husband Byron and I joined Northminster in 1960 when our son Bruce was four and daughter Elaine was one. In addition to forming many meaningful friendships, we have served under six pastors as Elders, Deacons, Christian Education and Junior High teachers, and Adult education leaders. As a staff member for 13 years under Harry Eberts and Bob Chestnut, I gained great appreciation for our pastoral leadership. Bible study through the Telecourse series and Tuesday Bible class has given us greater depth of understanding of our Christian faith.

When my wife and I moved exactly two minutes from Northminster on Marcy Avenue in 2001, I was immediately attracted to the church. Our son Johnny was baptized here and attended the Northminster Nursery School. It has been our second home and the fellowship, pastors and members have been a second family to us.
