Northminster’s ASP 2017 Needs Support — Prayer and Financial

Categories: Events,Mission

From June 17th to June 24th Northminster will be sending a group of 79 youth and 42 adult leaders on a week-long mission trip to Knott and Magoffin counties in Kentucky. This mission trip is through an organization called Appalachian Service Project (ASP) that was started by a Methodist minister named Glen “Tex” Evans in 1969. The stated goal of ASP is to transform lives through the work of making homes warmer, safer and drier. Over the past twelve years of involvement with ASP, members and friends of NPC have witnessed a transformation in the lives of youth and adult volunteers as well as the families we serve. ASP reaches out to people in need right where they are, just as they are. This open and compassionate approach has a profound impact on everyone involved. It is amazing what God can do in just a week. I invite you to take part in this good work by lending your support.

To take a group of 121 volunteers to ASP we must raise $75,000. This money covers a variety of things including the cost of construction supplies, gas, vans, room and board, insurance, and team donations to ASP. We have been fundraising since November and are working to reach our goal. Most of the money we raise comes in small increments with well over 100 people contributing each year. We hope that you will consider lending two kinds of support for our trip. The first is your prayers; any attempt to repair homes with a crew of amateur teenage carpenters requires a lot of God’s grace! The second is your financial support. Every little bit counts.

If you would like to support this mission and become a member of the ASP 2017 family by supporting this trip, please send a check made out to “Northminster Presbyterian Church” with “ASP 2017” written on the memo line. We have also started a GoFundMe page if you prefer to donate online. Just click here.

There is no deadline for the submission of donations though prior to our departure is preferred. All donations are tax deductible and will be acknowledged with a receipt from NPC for tax purposes.

Checks should be sent to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2515 Central Park Avenue. Evanston IL 60201. Please also include your address so that we may send you a thank you card while we are down in Kentucky.

If you have any questions you can email or our trip leaders: Al Williams or Paul Rolfes. Information about ASP can be found at this link.
