Northminster Nursery School is devoted to giving children a great beginning in a loving, accepting atmosphere where they can explore, learn and play. We believe that young children learn best through play, exploration and peer interaction in a safe, stimulating environment. At Northminster, our program offers structure and continuity without sacrificing creativity and plain old fun!
Northminster is located in a peaceful residential neighborhood in northwest Evanston. The school, founded in 1969, is non-sectarian and welcomes children of all races and creeds. Our facilities include large cheerful classrooms with age-appropriate toys and resources, an inside playroom for inclement weather and a big, completely fenced-in playground just out the back door. Best of all, NNS offers loving and experienced teachers plus flexible programs to meet the needs of you and your child.
Busy days for active minds
Northminster offers classes and special programs for children from 2-5 years old. Our days are filled with opportunities for children to develop their mental, physical, emotional and social skills. Each week focuses on themes -- colors, shapes and concepts like family and safety. These topics are explored with visuals, stories, games and other fun and creative ways to learn. Favorites include Teddy Bear Week, Dinosaur Days (with a bone hunt!), a Thanksgiving Feast, and Robot Shop. Parents share the fun through events including an Art Show & Auction, Dad's Day Halloween Party, Family Picnic, Winter Social, and parent education programs.
2-3 YEAR OLDS |
Two-by-Two is a 2-3 year old class specifically planned for the child who turns 2 by September 1. Children who crave social interaction but are too young for traditional preschool programs thrive at Northminster two days per week from 9-11:30 a.m. Their special room is bright and the teachers are loving. The student-teacher ratio is never higher than 7:1 for lots of individual attention. |
3-5 YEAR OLDS |
Choose your Days! NNS offers both morning and afternoon classes for children turning 3 by September 1. At NNS you choose the days and time that fit best with the schedule of you and your child. In the morning there are two classes, divided by age, which meet from 9-11:30 a.m. The afternoon class of mixed ages meets from 12:30-3:00 p.m. Children can attend 3, 4, or 5 days a week, along with the Lunch Bunch extended day option. |
Something special for your child
NNS takes our curriculum a step further with the Grandparent Program and Lunch Bunch. In the Grandparent Program, each class has a senior member of Northminster Church serving as a helper once a week -- reading stories or providing a lap and hugs. During Lunch Bunch, our extended day program, children have an opportunity to have lunch at school. After morning classes or before the afternoon classes, they enjoy outside play, stories and games. These are just two of the programs that make Northminster a special place.
Teachers that know and care
Each child is unique and our experienced staff knows how to observe, respond and nurture. All of our teachers at NNS are certified by state standards plus trained in early childhood growth and development. Through participation in continuing education workshops and seminars, our teachers are always learning and bringing fresh ideas to their work. All are trained in pediatric CPR and First Aid. In addition, they are experienced parents, bringing to their jobs extra sensitivity to the joys and occasional frustrations of the preschooler.
