Seraj in Arabic means “light.” On Sunday morning, October 1st,, Birch and Galen Burghardt will introduce you to the Seraj Library Project, whose vision is access to a community library for every Palestinian child and family. Since its founding in 2005, Seraj has built eight libraries, the most recent one in Jiftlek, a very poor, small village in the Jordan River valley just north of Jericho. Birch and Galen will tell you the amazing story of how Seraj came to be, something about their travels to these libraries on the West Bank, and about the lively effect that these libraries are having on Palestinian life and culture. Please join us in the Guild Room at 11:10 a.m.
